Employment Rights

Where to find information about your employment rights

If you work in the UK you have a number of rights relating to your employment. These include the right:

  • to be earning a minimum hourly age
  • to be given a minimum amount of time off in the year,
  • to work in an environment that complies with health and safety regulations, and
  • not to be discriminated against on the grounds of gender, sexual orientation, disability, race, colour, ethnic background, religion or age.

If you are interested in finding out more about any of these rights, as well as information on flexible working, joining a union and a range of other topics, use the Directgov website or the Citizen's Advice Bureau's employment advice guide (see the external links section at the bottom of this page). You can also visit your local Citizen's Advice Bureau in person to talk through your queries or concerns.

If you feel you have been discriminated against in the workplace you may also like to use the link to the Equalities and Human Rights Commission.
