Foundation Learning
Foundation Learning (Pre-Apprenticeship)
For young people aged 16-18
Are you aged 16-18? Left school and not sure what to do next? Unlock your potential with Foundation Learning.
How does Foundation Learning work?
We work with you to create your own programme - designed to help you achieve your goals, whether that’s moving onto a job, further training/education or an apprenticeship. The programme prepares young people for undertaking an apprenticeship or entry to further education. It combines vocational qualifications in Retail, Business, ICT and Customer Service alongside Functional Skills in English, Maths and ICT that make up part of an apprenticeship framework. Learners can also complete a qualification in employability skills and attend a work experience placement. Training takes place at the safe environment of Wood Green Library next to the Youth and Children’s Participation Service.
How do I know it is for me?
Young people who are suitable for the FL programme:
- may have just finished their GCSE’s
- want to improve on their English and Maths
- want to get some work experience
- are not sure where to progress to in the future
- may have had difficulties learning in the past
- may need guidance and experience on what career they should move into
What’s it like?
The HALS Foundation Learning programme will combine learning pathways like Retail, Business and Customer Service with functional skills. There will also be a qualification in Personal and Social Development that will include topics such as preparing for work and financial skills, independent living and citizenship.
What will I receive on the programme?
You may be entitled to some financial support of up to £30 per week through the bursary scheme if you meet specific criteria.
