ESOL - English for Speakers of Other Languages

Our aim is to help learners improve their language skills in order to enhance their employment opportunities or to help them access further education and training.

ESOL courses at the Wood Green Learning Centre

These English courses are designed for learners who are permanent residents in the UK.

Learners must

  • Have a National Insurance number and proof of identity
  • Be registered unemployed
  • Be 19 years and over

Classes available

  • (Entry 2) Lower Intermediate
  • (Entry 3) Intermediate
  • (Level 1) Upper Intermediate

These courses cover English at all levels and use common situations as a way of teaching.

Themes include

  • Employment
  • Travel
  • Health
  • Housing

The courses teach you

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Listening and speaking skills

Nationally recognised qualifications are offered at all levels.

We offer help with

  • Intensive job search, including CVs, application
  • Communication and presentation skills
  • Information Communication Technology (ICT)
  • Numeracy (numbers)

When you apply for an ESOL course at HALS a language tutor will interview you. This person will assess your language level and together you will decide which class is best for you.
