Application for the registration of a town or village green

Haringey Council has received an application to register the former Friern Barnet sewage works (Pinkham Way) as a town or village green.

Land may qualify for registration as a town and village green where it has been used by a significant number of local residents for a period of more than 20 years for lawful sports and pastimes as of right.

Registration of the land as a town or village green would protect the land, making it, amongst other things, a criminal offence to do anything that would stop use of the land for recreation and enjoyment.

The Council is managing this application solely in its capacity as the Commons Registration Authority. This is separate from any other capacity, such as the Local Planning Authority.

What happens next?

Haringey has received a number of submissions regarding the village green application. All submissions, along with the applicants response were put before the Independent Assessor conducting the inquiry for consideration.

An informal (or "non-statutory") inquiry considered this application in March 2013 and concluded on Friday 8 March 2013. Further information will appear on this webpage shortly. The inquiry was conducted by an Independent Assessor, Philip Petchey of Francis Taylor Buildings, who will then make recommendations to a Council committee, which will make the final decision.
