Sustainable Development: Local Agenda 21
Local Agenda 21 came about following the Rio Earth Summit in 1992. It was agreed that if the wide ranging environmental problems facing the world were to be addressed, the actions need to be taken locally - not just by politicians, nationally or internationally.
Haringey Local Agenda 21 (LA21) Action Plan gives details of the steps that the Council, businesses, voluntary groups and individuals can take to ensure the borough has a sustainable development that does not destroy the earth’s natural resources.
The plan is divided into three sections:
- Living
- Working and
- Moving
The plan identifies:
- What is already being done
- A schedule of actions covering a three year period
- A performance indicator for each action
- What we can all do to continue to improve the way in which we live
A copy of the action plan can be downloaded from the attached files section below.
Monitoring
The monitoring report updated the progress on each of the 88 performance indicators cited in the Action Plan, highlighted where progress was made and where more was required. A copy can be downloaded from the attached files section below.
