Statement of Community Involvement (SCI)

The Council’s Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) has been produced as part of the Council's Local Development Framework (LDF). The SCI sets out how the community will be engaged in the preparation of the LDF and in the determination of planning applications in the borough.

The document emerged following three separate six-week periods of consultation on the Draft SCI which ran between September and November 2006, between January and February 2007, and between May and July 2007.

Representations submitted during the last stage of consultation were considered by a government appointed Planning Inspector at an independent written representations’ examination where the Inspector tested the document for its “soundness” as set out in the Regulations (contained within the Town and Country Planning (Local Development) (England) Regulations, 2004).

The Council’s response to the representations received were also considered by the Inspector, who has now written to the Council setting out a binding report which outlines some changes that the Council is required to make prior to adoption of the SCI. The Council has made these changes to the document and it has been submitted to the Cabinet for approval formally adopting the SCI.
