Planning Policy and Projects

Local Development Framework

Haringey planning policies are made up of a portfolio of policy documents, under the umbrella of the Local Development Framework (LDF). The Local Development Scheme (LDS) is the project plan which sets out the work programme for developing the LDF. This includes the Unitary Development Plan (adopted in 2006), and the Supplementary Planning Guidance (2006).

We also have a number of Area Based Strategies which identify local needs and set out how the Council, the local community and other key agencies can work in partnership to identify and solve problems in the area, a LA21 (Local Agenda 21) Sustainable Development Action Plan and other planning Projects.

The Unitary Development Plan (UDP) is currently a key document in the LDF and is the Councils statutory plan relating to the development and use of land and buildings for the whole borough. The plan contains a set of policies on housing, jobs, leisure, transport education and health and these policies are used to help decide whether to allow or refuse planning applications. For further information and a full copy of the UDP please read out Unitary Development Plan webpage.

Consultation

An important part of developing any policy document is the process of consultation. Our Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) gives more detail on how we hold planning policy consultation. As we regularly carry out public consultation on drafts of our documents, we will soon have a web-based system to help people make comments on these drafts.

Call for Sites Consultation

The Council carried out this informal survey as the initial stage of its preparation of a Sites Allocation DPD, which forms part of Haringey’s Local Development Framework (LDF). This document will be used to guide land use and future development in the borough until 2026.

The preparation of this document will include land or buildings suitable for future development to be considered by the Council for inclusion in the Sites Allocation DPD, which is being drafted in response to the comments made.
