Historic Parks and Gardens
Haringey has 36 Historic Parks and Gardens, 2 of which are on the National Register of Parks and Gardens of Historic Interest, the remainder of which are on the Register of Public Parks, Gardens, Squares, Cemeteries and Churchyards of Local Historic Interest.
The National Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest is maintained by English Heritage. Sites of exceptional historic interest are assessed as grade I, those of great historic interest as grade II* and those of special historic interest as grade II. The grading of these sites is independent of the grading of any listed building which falls within the area.
National registration does not entail extra legal controls (unlike listing of buildings or designation of conservation areas), but it does mean that special consideration is given to the landscape in the planning process.
The register of Public Parks, Gardens, Squares, Cemeteries and Churchyards of Local Historic Interest was compiled by the London Historic Parks and Gardens Trust in 1996, a copy of which is held by the Council’s Design and Conservation Team.
