Introduction
The Warmth and Comfort scheme is an initiative developed by British Gas and operates throughout the six London boroughs that make up the North London sub Region: Islington, Barnet, Camden, Westminster, Enfield and Haringey.
The scheme aims to deliver £6 million worth of free heating and insulation improvements to residents who own their own homes or rent from private landlords and are in receipt of means tested or disability related benefits.

Applicants must own their own homes or rent from a private landlord and be in receipt of one of the following qualifying benefits:
- Attendance Allowance
- Child Tax Credit
- Council Tax Credit
- Disability Living Allowance
- Housing Benefit
- Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
- Income Support
- Industrial Injuries Disability Benefit
- Pension Credit
- War Disablement Pension
- Working Tax Credit
- Disabled Persons Tax Credit
- Working Families Tax Credit
Heating and Insulation Measures
Subject to the outcome of a technical survey eligible households could be entitled to free installation of the following measures:
- Loft Insulation
- Cavity Wall Insulation
- Central Heating
- Central Heating Upgrades
Potential Benefits
Save around £200 on your energy bills
- According to the Energy Saving Trust home insulation can reduce heating bills by around £200 per year for an average three bedroom semi-detached house.
Cut future bills by as much as 40 per cent
- A new energy efficient condensing boiler will save you money, according to the Energy Saving Trust gas bills can be reduced by as much as 40 per cent.
Cut Carbon Dioxide emissions by as much as 30 per cent
- Old boilers produce a lot of unnecessary carbon dioxide emissions. According to the Centre for Alternative Technology a new boiler could emit as much as 30 per cent less carbon dioxide.
