Warm Front Grants

Introduction

Warm Front is a central government funded scheme administered by the EAGA Partnership to tackle fuel poverty. The scheme was launched in June 2000 and prior to this was known as the Home Energy Efficiency Scheme. The scheme provides heating and insulation for eligible clients throughout England to improve the thermal efficiency of homes.

Heating Measures Available

  • Gas / Electric or Oil Fired Central Heating
  • Gas heaters with thermostatic controls
  • Conversion of solid fuel fires to more modern glass fronted fires
  • Thermostatic controls for existing central heating systems
  • Timer controls for existing central heating systems

Insulation Measures Available

  • Cavity wall insulation
  • Loft insulation
  • Draught Proofing
  • Hot water tank insulation

Eligibility Criteria

All applicants must either own their own property or rent it from a private landlord. Those who rent from a private landlord will need the written permission of the landlord before any measures can be installed and will need to demonstrate that they are responsible for the heating system in order to receive the heating element of the grant.

To determine whether you are eligible  for a Warm Front Grant please see the three criteria below:

Eligibility 1: Those Aged 60 or over

Applicants must own their own home or rent from a private landlord and be aged 60 or older and in receipt of one ofthe following benefits:

  • Pension Credit
  • Council Tax Benefit
  • Housing Benefit
  • Income Based Job Seekers Allowance

Eligibility 2: Those who are pregnant or have children under 16

Applicants must own their own home and have children under 16 or be pregnant and have maternity certificate MAT B1. These applicants must also be in receipt of one of the following benefits:

  • Income Based Job Seekers Allowance
  • Council Tax Benefit
  • Income Support
  • Housing Benefit
  • Pension Credit

Eligibility 3: Those in receipt of means tested benefits

Applicants must be in receipt of one of the following benefits:

  • Attendance Allowance
  • Disability Living Allowance
  • Working Tax Credit
    • With an annual income of less than £15,460.00
    • Must include a disability element
  • Child Tax Credit
    • With an annual income of less than £15,460.00
  • Income Support
    • Must include a disability premium
  • Housing Benefit
    • Must include a disability premium
  • Council Tax Benefit
    • Must include a disability premium
  • Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
    • Must include Constant Attendance Allowance
  • War Disablement Pension
    • Must include a mobility supplement or constant attendance allowance

Benefit Entitlement Check

If, based on the criteria outlined above, you do not qualify for a Warm Front Grant it may be because you are not claiming all the benefits to which your are entitled.

By claiming the benefits to which you are entitled you may therefore become eligible for a Warm Front Grant.

The Heating Rebate Scheme

This scheme is designed to assist those aged over 60 who do not qualify for a Warm Front Grant. The scheme provides anyone over 60 with a £300 rebate off the cost of installing a new central heating system.
