The following information should give you an outline of the main areas of advice that we cover.
You can download all our leaflets in the attached files section, however, if you need further advice please contact us.
|Back to topPeople who are homeless
If you are homeless you should visit one of our Customer Service Centres for advice. You can also telephone the Housing Advice Line on 020 8489 1000. They will give you further advice over the telephone or, if necessary, make you an appointment to see an adviser.
Not everybody qualifies for housing assistance from the Council.
This will generally be people who
- are homeless or threatened with homelessness (including some severely overcrowded households)
- are eligible (defined by your immigration status, whether you are 'habitually resident’ in the UK, in some cases your country of origin, and whether you are classed as a ‘worker’.)
- are in priority need (have children or are pregnant, vulnerable due to age or medical conditions or other special reasons, or if you are homeless because of a fire or flood)
- have a local connection with Haringey
- have been made homeless through no fault of their own.
To find out if the council has a duty to assist you
- you can visit the Shelter website (external link) which has more detailed information on the criteria listed above
- or call the Housing Advice Line on 020 8489 1000.
London Street Rescue provides help for people sleeping rough in Haringey. They work with rough sleepers to help them access services and accommodation. To refer a rough sleeper to this service please call 0870 383 3333 (24 hours), or complete the online referral form (external link). Find out more about London Street Rescue (external link).
Please note that London Street Rescue is not an emergency service. If the person you are concerned about needs urgent medical assistance, please call 999.
You can also contact any of the following for help and advice.
- St Mungo's (external link) - London's largest charity for homeless people.
- Directgov - homelessness information (external link) - Housing advice for young people.
Haringey residents who are looking for somewhere to live?
You may apply to go on Haringey's Housing Register but it is very unlikely that we will be able to house you. We direct most people to the private rented sector. To view other options please look at our Housing Options page.
