Environmental Health and Housing - Frontline Response Service

What we do

• We provide a service to all private sector housing residents who require assistance, advice or guidance on housing related problems such as drainage issues, housing disrepair, housing disrepair in privately rented accommodation, boarding up of empty premises, filthy and verminous premises.
• We will send a duty officer to investigate any complaint or visit and inspect any problem. We will provide a response to an enquiry the following day or at a convenient time and date for the complainant.
• Appropriate mediation or enforcement action will be taken by the investigating officer in order to resolve a situation.
• If works to resolve a problem are not carried out by an owner occupier or landlord then the local authority will carryout out the works in default and a charge will be put on the property.
• If a property is in substantial disrepair an appointment will be made to carryout a further full inspection using a health and safety risk rating which was introduced through the Housing Act 2004.
• We carry out Parish Burial searches in conjunction with an officer appointed from the coroners officer. These searches are carried to try and trace any living relatives or friends of a deceased resident.
• We carry out  Haringey entry clearance inspections on behalf of the British Embassy/ Consulates to ensure accommodation for is fit for human habitation.

What we don’t do

• We don’t visit problems which are Homes for Haringey properties
• We don't deal with disrepair to commercial premises
• We don’t deal with environmental response issues such as fly tipping or dumped rubbish.
• We don’t respond to complaints about bonfires.
• We don’t deal with noise complaints
