General information on the different schemes

How do I know if I am eligible for help?

The eligibility criteria for each of the schemes differs. If there is any scheme you are interested in and you are unclear about whether or not you qualify for assistance, the Useful Contacts section on each page provides you with the relevant contact details to help you find out.

To be considered for any of the low cost home ownership options you must be registered on Haringey’s Housing register.

Who can buy?

Anyone who cannot afford to buy a suitable home on the open market without some assistance can apply.

We welcome applications from:

  • Council tenants and housing association tenants;
  • Key Workers;
  • First time buyers;
  • People living with parents or relatives;
  • People living in private rented accommodation;
  • People who need to move for work reasons; and
  • Homeless people or people living in temporary accommodation.

However, we will give priority to council and housing association tenants who will move out of their rented homes.

Are these schemes only available to first time buyers?

Most of the schemes are aimed at anyone who cannot afford to first time buy, however, you could receive help under some schemes in certain circumstances, for example, key workers who are seeking to sell their existing home in order to trade up to a larger property to meet their household needs.

If I am eligible for two different schemes, can I combine them to receive a larger sum?

No – assistance under one scheme cannot be combined with any other publicly funded scheme.

How much help will I receive?

This will depend upon the scheme you apply for and whether you meet the criteria of that scheme.  Some of the schemes work out the amount you will receive by taking into account your household’s income, savings, financial commitments, any property you already own, the mortgage you can get, and the purchase price of the property you are seeking to buy.
