Building Control Charges

Since 1 April 1999 Building Control charges are set by each Local Authority.

Types of charges:

• Set charge, such as for newly erected dwellings or work including extensions;
• Charge based on the cost of work for general building work,
• Charge based on floor area.

The charge is generally split into two parts.

• Plan fee - submitted with your application,
• Inspection fee - Payable as soon as you commence work.

Where you submit a Building Notice, both charges must be paid when you submit the Notice.
