Green and Healthy Travel
DIY Planet Repairs – travel awareness in Haringey
DIY Planet Repairs is a London wide environmental campaign, funded by Transport for London. It aims to raise awareness of the importance of sustainable living and encourage individuals to do their bit to tackle climate change.
A key focus of DIY Planet Repairs is to provide Londoners with practical advice and useful information that will enable Londoners to make simple and effective changes to the way we travel. These simple changes can save you money, improve your health, enhance the local environment and provide a quick and enjoyable way to get around Haringey and London.
How do I take part?
To show your commitment to healthier and more environmentally friendly travel choices, why not join fellow Londoners and take the imovelondon pledge today.
Simply by switching just one weekly car journey for walking, cycling, public transport and car sharing you could make a big difference. DIY Planet Repair's imovelondon pledge replaces the good going campaign pledge.

|back to topTravel Awareness events in Haringey
Travel awareness campaigning is a key element of Haringey Council’s aim to reduce car dependency and promote travel alternatives including walking, cycling and the use of public transport. Six out of ten journeys made in Haringey are less than 5 km long – an ideal distance for walking, cycling or taking public transport. The following events have been arranged to promote travel awareness in Haringey.
Car Free Day – Wood Green High Street Sunday 28 September 2008.
Wood Green High Road took on a carnival atmosphere as around 10,000 residents and shoppers joined in the biggest car free event ever staged in the borough.
The Car Free Day festival on Sunday 28 September saw the High Road closed to traffic and filled instead with live music entertainment, bike shows, children’s activities, and food stalls. The event, organised by Haringey Council in partnership with the Sustainable Haringey Network and College Arts, was aimed at giving residents a greater sense of what a traffic-free environment is like, and encouraging them to consider alternative transport to the car. Visitors to the event were able to pick up a wide range of information about sustainable transport and how to help improve the borough’s environment.
Bike Week
Numerous cycling events took place in the borough during Bike Week between 14-22 June 2008. These included Doctor Bike sessions, organised bike rides and school cycling activities.
More events will be planned for the 2009 Bike Week during 13-21 June 2009. For more Bike Week event information for Haringey schools contact the School Travel Plan team on 020 8489 1091.
