Reporting the Problem

You can report damage to the highway by telephoning us using the appropriate contact number above. The report will then be classed as either an emergency or routine work based on the type of damage. For non-emergency issues you can also notify us by using our report a problem page.

We require as much of the following information as possible to respond to your report:

  • street name and area.
  • location on street, ie; is it near a house number or road junction?
  • description and detail of the damage.
  • your name and a contact number.
  • date and approximate time of damage.
  • persons or vehicle registration responsible for damage (if known).
  • were the police in attendance?

What will we do?

Assess damage

  • emergency hazards made safe within two hours
  • damage assessed by technician
  • depending on damage and location, repairs will be carried out within 8 weeks or planned within six months.

Identify ownership

  • we will attempt to identify ownership and responsiblity of the property or street furniture.
  • if Haringey Council is not responsible for repairs, the statutory owner will be contacted.
  • the owner will be requested to attend and repair the hazard within a set timescale.

If the owner is unable to meet this timescale then Haringey Council will make the hazard safe and will then recover the costs.

The following are some examples of street furniture and property that is not the responsibility of Haringey Council:

  • inspection covers in the pavement or road for example; stop taps, fire hydrants, manholes and valve boxes.
  • walls built for non-highway purposes.
  • cellar covers.
  • British Telecom or Cable cabinets.
