Street lights and traffic signals

Part of: Report problems with a street or road

All street lights across Haringey are now LED lights. This means they are more responsive and environmentally friendly.

You can report a problem with:

  • broken street lights
  • street lights that stay on during the day – we do not pay for the wasted electricity but it can shorten the life of the lamp
  • lit signs or bollards

What we need

When reporting a faulty street light, you will need to let us know:

  • the street name and nearest house number to the street lamp
  • the identity code number attached to the column

Reporting an emergency

Emergency problems with street lights include:

  • missing panels and exposed wires
  • lighting columns that have been knocked down or that are bent and leaning
  • traffic bollards on traffic islands

If there's an immediate danger, contact us straight away.

If you are reporting the emergency after 5pm, you will need to contact the out of hours team.

What we do

We will:

  • visit the area within 2 working days and decide how urgently it needs to be fixed
  • repair dangerous or serious issues within 24 hours to 7 days
  • repair non-serious issues within 28 working days – however, this depends on the resources that are available and it may take longer

UK Power Networks

Some faults in street lighting can be caused by a power supply problem. UK Power Networks are responsible for the power supply.

You can check if there are any power supply problems on the UK Power Networks fault map. The fault map may not be updated straight away with faults that were reported recently.

Traffic lights

Traffic lights are managed by Transport for London (TfL), except for temporary roadwork lights. TfL is responsible for placing and maintaining traffic lights.

You can report a problem with traffic lights on the TfL website.
