Green Garden Waste Service
Over 70,000 properties receive a regular collection of green garden waste, either on a weekly basis as part of the Mixed Recycling Service or on a fortnightly basis.
To find out if you have a collection from your home, please use the Recycling Search Facility. Alternatively you can contact the Haringey Enterprise Call Centre for information:

Using the service
If you have any green garden waste then you should put it out in untied bags. Residents on the Mixed Recycling Service have been provided with a white reusable sack for green garden waste. Any additional green garden waste can be put out for collection in untied bags.
Please put your green garden waste out the night before your collection.
The bags should be left near your the front gate, separated from the rest of your rubbish. If the bags are tied up then they may not be collected. Do not put your bags of green garden waste on the public footpath.
Please make sure that no other rubbish is put into the same bags as the garden waste. Bags containing garden waste mixed with other rubbish will not be collected.
|Back to topWhat you can recycle
You can use the green garden waste collection service to recycle the following:
| Yes please | No thank you |
|---|---|
| Grass cuttings | Japanese Knotweed |
| Hedge clippings | Large branches |
| Leaves | Turf |
| Prunings | Soil or sand |
| Small branches | Food |
| Flowers | Any other rubbish |
- If you have any branches larger than 8cm (3 inches) thick then these should be cut into smaller pieces and tied together with string before they are put out for collection.
- Please remember that we cannot take any other items of rubbish on the green garden waste collection service.
Your collection day
To check your collection day please use the Recycling Search Facility.
- Most garden waste collections take place at the same time as the rest of the recycling.
- However, if the search facility shows (A) or (B) after your green garden waste collection day then the garden waste will be collected by a different vehicle every two weeks. At present this service is being reviewed by the council, so there is no published schedule available. To find out when your next collection of green garden waste is taking place, please contact the Haringey Enterprise Call Centre using the details below.

How is the garden waste collected?
The garden waste is collected by a vehicle that looks similar to a normal dustcart, but is used exclusively for recycling:
- On the fortnightly service, the garden waste is collected by itself in a dedicated vehicle.
- On the Mixed Recycling Service, the garden waste is mixed with food waste in the same compartment on the special vehicles. These vehicles have another compartment where the other recycling (such as the paper, tins, and glass) is collected.
The garden waste is then taken to a special in-vessel composting facility to be recycled. There is more information about this available in the organic recycling section of the what happens to recycling page.
