Textile Recycling
If you have any unwanted textiles, clothes or shoes, there are facilities around the borough where you can take them so that they can be used again.
Charity Shops and Collections
Most charity shops will be happy to take unwanted clothing that is in good condition. This clothing can then be sold to raise money for the charity's work, or it may be used in humanitarian efforts.
If you are going to give your unwanted clothing to a charity shop, please note the following:
- Check with the staff what they can and cannot take before you take any bags of clothes to the shop.
- Do not leave bags of clothing at the door of the shop. This reduces the quality of the clothes, and often makes a mess on the pavement if the bags split open.
- Do not try to give a charity shop any torn, holed or stained clothing, as they will probably not be able to use it.
Some charities also organise door-to-door collections of unwanted clothing, and will deliver a bag through your letterbox a few days before they visit your road. However, you should be aware that some other companies will try to offer you this service, but the clothing will not be used for charity or humanitarian efforts. If you are unsure whether the collection service being offered to you is by a reputable company then you may wish to find an alternative way to recycle your unwanted clothing.

There are collection points for clothes (in any condition) and shoes (in pairs) at both of the Reuse and Recycling Centres in Haringey, which are located on Hornsey High Street and Park View Road, Tottenham. For more information, please visit the Reuse and Recycling Centres section of the site.

The council is working with an organisation called LM Barry & Co Ltd. to set up collection points for unwanted clothes and shoes at a number of our bring bank locations around the borough. These textile banks can be used to recycle clothing in any condition, and you can also drop off good quality shoes if you no longer need them (please tie the laces together to keep them in pairs).
The clothing will be collected by LMB and hand-sorted to separate the good quality clothing that can be used again from lower quality or damaged items, which can then be shredded and made into cloths. More information on how LMB sorts and recycles clothing can be found on the company's website - please see the external links section at the bottom of the page.
