How to use the blue bag service

Residents need to leave their blue bag outside their front door by 7am on the morning of collection. Bags must not be left outside at any other time.

All general household rubbish must be put into your existing general refuse container. If you put any items in your recycling bag that cannot be recycled these will be left behind.

What happens to the materials I put out for recycling?

The recycling is taken to a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in London, where the different materials are separated using a combination of mechanical separation and hand sorting. Once sorted from one another, these materials are then delivered to reprocessing companies to be recycled into new products.

For more information please see the mixed material collections section on the what happens to recycling page.
