Recycling for Flats and Estates

This page provides information on the recycling facilities that have been provided to a number of blocks of flats and housing estates in Haringey.

Blue bag doorstep collections ended in the week beginning 22 June 2009. Alternative arrangements with either near-entry bins or green box collections have been put in place to replace the blue bag service. For information about alternative recycling services, residents should refer to the letters delivered on 20 June 2009, or contact the Haringey Enterprise Call Centre:

How to use the near-entry recycling facilities

All materials can be put into the same container. Please put only the correct items into the recycling bin, through the flap at the top of the bin.

You can take your recycling to the nearest bin at any time during the day, but please consider other residents by only using the bins between 8am and 9pm. All recycling bins will be emptied once a week.

What happens to the materials I put out for recycling?

The recyclables collected are taken to a Material Recovery Facility (MRF) in London or Essex which separates the materials using a combination of mechanical separation and hand sorting. Once separated these materials are then bulked and delivered to reprocessing companies.

Recycling for flats above shops

Most flats above shops do not have suitable space for green recycling boxes or near-entry recycling bins.

There are recycling banks located around the borough, which residents can use to recycle paper, cardboard, plastic bottles, tins, cans, glass bottles and jars. To find your nearest recycling banks, please visit the Recycle Now website (see external links section below) and enter your postcode.

We are looking into alternative types of recycling collection that could be introduced to provide a more convenient service for residents living in flats above shops.
