Recycling for Flats Above Shops

Clear recycling sacksDoorstep recycling collections are being introduced for residents living in flats above shops, and other locations where other types of recycling service cannot be provided.

The collections use clear sacks, which are provided to residents for free. A wide range of materials can be put into the same sack for recycling, and the clear sacks will be picked up at the same times and locations as existing refuse sacks.

Please use the links below for more information:

Collection times and locations

Clear recycling sackThe collection arrangements for the recycling are the same as for refuse.

This means that you can put your clear recycling sacks out at the same time and location as the black bags you use for rubbish.

If you live on a main road where there are timed collection arrangements in place for refuse then please make sure you also comply with these for the clear recycling sacks.

If you do not know when to put your refuse and recycling out, please contact the Haringey Enterprise Call Centre:

Tel: 020 8885 7700
Email: haringey.enterprise@enterprise.plc.uk

How is the recycling collected?

Dual-compartment vehicle, viewed from rearThe refuse and recycling will be collected in the same vehicle, which has two separate compartments.

The recycling is put into one compartment, which is emptied at a materials recovery facility so that the different materials can be sorted out from one another. For more information on this process, please visit the Mixed-Material Recycling section of our What happens to recycling? pages.

The other compartment on the vehicle is used to collect the refuse. This compartment is emptied when the vehicle arrives at the energy-from-waste plant in Edmonton, or alternatively at one of the other transfer stations in North London (from where it will be taken to landfill).

What to recycle

The clear sacks can be used to recycle:

  • Paper
  • Cardboard
  • Drinks cartons (rinsed)
  • Plastic bottles, tubs, pots and trays (rinsed)
  • Tins and cans (rinsed)
  • Glass bottles and jars (rinsed, with lids removed)

Please do not put any sharp objects or broken glass in your clear sacks. Broken jars and bottles can be recycled using local recycling banks.

For a more detailed list of what can be recycled, please visit the what to recycle in the clear sacks page.

Alternatively you can order sacks through the Report A Problem form. Select Recycling on the first page, and then use the drop-down menu on the second page to request the clear recycling sacks.

The clear sacks are provided to residents free of charge.

Please do not give your clear recycling sacks to anyone else.
