Recycling Banks
There are a number of recycling banks sited on the streets of Haringey and in other convenient locations such as supermarket car parks and housing estates.
Residents can recycle the following materials at the recycling banks:
- Paper (no directories, catalogues or cardboard)
- Glass bottles and jars (rinsed, with lids removed)
- Food tins and drinks cans (rinsed)
Below you will find more information about changes to these facilities which will make it possible to recycle more materials in your local recycling banks.
To find out where your local recycling banks are located please visit the Recycle for London website using the link in the external links section at the bottom of this page. The website has a useful search facility that you can access by entering your postcode.

Mixed-Material Recycling Banks
During 2008 and 2009 we will be making changes to our recycling banks so that they can accept a wider range of materials, including plastic bottles and cardboard.
The existing containers at each location will either be swapped for new bins, or we will re-label them so that they look similar to the one shown in the picture.
The recycling banks will then be able to accept the following materials:
- Paper and cardboard (no drinks cartons please)
- Plastic bottles (no other plastics)
- Tins and cans (rinsed)
- Glass bottles and jars (rinsed, with lids removed please)
All of the recycling can be put into the same container as we sort the materials out later on.
As soon as we have replaced or re-labelled the banks at your nearest facilities then you may start using them to recycle your plastic bottles and cardboard, along with the paper, cans and glass that could already be collected.
Please do not put plastic bottles or cardboard into any recycling banks that have not yet been replaced or re-labelled to look like the bin in the picture above.
|Back to topWhat happens to recycling collected in mixed-material banks?
The recyclables collected in the new mixed-material banks are taken to a Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in London which separates the materials using a combination of mechanical separation and hand sorting. Once separated these materials are then bulked and delivered to reprocessing companies.
For more information please see the mixed material collections section on the what happens to recycling page.

What to do if the recycling bins are full
We aim to empty all recycling bins on a regular basis to prevent them from overflowing.
