Organic Recycling
Organic recycling is the term we use for the food and garden waste that is collected from residents.
This material is processed locally at an in-vessel composting facility in Edmonton, where it is turned into a type of compost that can be used on agricultural or municipal land.
Some of the compost produced in Edmonton is brought back to Haringey for use on our parks.
The in-vessel composting facility is capable of dealing with a very wide range of organic materials, including green garden waste and food scraps (both cooked and uncooked).
Even for those residents who use a home composting bin, this facility offers a means of disposing of leftovers, meat and other items of food that cannot be composted at home.
There is more information on the composting facility and the processes used there on the website for Agrivert Ltd, which operates the Edmonton facility on behalf of London Waste Ltd.
