Water-Based Paint (Emulsion)

Water-based paint (emulsion) can be disposed of in your normal rubbish bin, but it must be fully dried out first. This is because of restrictions on the disposal of liquid chemical waste.

To dry your paint, take the lid off, add some sand or sawdust (if you have any) and then leave for several weeks. When it is completely dry, put the lid back on tightly and dispose of it in your bin.

If there is much paint in the tin then it will take quite a long time to dry out, so it is best to use all of the paint first. To avoid having lots of paint to dispose of, try to buy only what you will need when redecorating.
