Parking Consultations

Haringey Council regularly consults residents and businesses for their views on Controlled Parking Zones (CPZs) and other traffic management schemes.

Public Consultation process
The public consultation process confirms the level of support from residents and businesses before considering the way forward. With most proposals a letter, explanatory leaflet and questionnaire are addressed to residents and businesses within the proposed area. All of our correspondence includes a named officer contact and telephone number should you wish to contact us with further questions.
For major schemes the consultations are expanded to include a public meeting or exhibition.
If this stage of consultation confirms a sufficient level of support the council will enter the statutory stage of consultation.
|Back to topStatutory process
A traffic management order will be made at this stage which requires the publication of a formal notice in the local papers. Notices may also be posted in affected streets. This will give people a further opportunity to submit written objections. During the statutory process non-residents are given an opportunity to make their views known.
Once we have completed both the public and statutory consultations we consider all the responses and what changes if any need to be made to the scheme design. For some schemes we may need to report to a relevant Council committee where elected members decide if the scheme should go ahead. Members of the public are allowed to address the committee.
|Back to topWorks on site
When it has been decided that the scheme should proceed residents will be informed and also notified when work is due to start on site. The completion of the various legal stages we need to go through to make the traffic order, letting a works contract and programming the work with the contractor may mean it is many months between the decision to proceed and starting work.
|Back to topFast Track Policy for the introduction of CPZ extensions
We have introduced a fast track process for the introduction of extensions to existing CPZs. This new approach to consultation allows us to be more responsive to the concerns of local residents and reduces the time it would usually take to introduce CPZ’s by omitting the public consultation stage and going straight to statutory consultation. Residents that reside just outside of a CPZ can petition the council for inclusion in the existing CPZ. If sufficient evidence of support is provided - demonstrated by the majority of residents in a road signing a petition in favour of inclusion - this will replace the first public consultation stage.
