Closed Circuit Television (CCTV) Enforcement

As part of our commitment to ease traffic congestion and improve road safety Haringey uses a network of CCTV cameras to enforce both parking and bus lane infringements.

  • In October 2003, in conjunction with Transport for London (TfL) and the London Councils, Haringey began enforcing bus lanes using CCTV cameras (see Locations of Parking Enforcement CCTV for details). Research has shown that this enforcement has reduced abuse of bus lanes and improved bus-running times.
  • In September 2005 Haringey started enforcing parking infringements using CCTV cameras. This activity focuses on hot spots that the on street enforcement team find difficult to enforce. We were one of the first London Boroughs to use ‘Smart Cars’ to undertake mobile enforcement in locations that are not covered by static CCTV cameras.
  • In November 2005 Haringey began using these mobile units to enforce 'moving traffic offences' which includes yellow box junctions, banned turns and no entry signs. This new area of enforcement will also be supported by our static CCTV cameras.
