Furniture Reuse
Many furniture items that people need to dispose of are still reusable, either in their current condition or with just a bit of refurbishing. Donating furniture items you no longer need for reuse can help families on low incomes to furnish their home, protects the environment by preserving natural resources, and can create new jobs through local furniture reconditioning facilities and sales outlets.
A number of reusable and recyclable furniture items can now be collected for free by the council's contractor Veolia. For more information about disposal methods for large household items please visit the Bulky Items Collection webpage.
There are also other ways to donate furniture items for reuse (or to acquire second-hand products):
- List your item on Freecycle or Freegle, or keep an eye on these sites for items you might like (see external links section below)

London Reuse Network
The London Community Resource Network (LCRN) has been awarded funding from the London Waste and Recycling Board (LWARB) to set up the London Reuse Network. This involves bringing together the many organisations working on furniture reuse in London to offer a coordinated service to residents and businesses. The London Reuse Network is in the process of being established, and will be introduced in a phased approach across the capital starting in the Western Riverside boroughs, and gradually expanding to include North London and Haringey.
