Green Fair Main Stage

The Haringey Green Fair provides an assortment of musical entertainment each year to increase the spectacle of the event and encourage those that don’t often take an active interest in the environment to come along and find out what being green is all about. Mixing local talent with established acts, the set this year saw the attendance increase again from previous years.

Drumheads, Vipes and Fayola Timberlake kicked off the fair which was later the location to watch England kick off their World Cup campaign on a sustainably-powered big screen. As each zone across the park began to populate with eager greenies, many of the passing general public popped by, curious to see what all the commotion was about. Hundreds became thousands and people descended on the stage to enjoy the music and also partake in the nearby give or take activity. By this point the Kaos Signing Choir for Deaf and Hearing Children had taken to the stage. They are an award-winning integrated project for children aged 4 to 18 and the only integrated deaf and hearing children’s choir in the UK. The choir wowed audiences with performances of original Songs Of Kaos, all written by or especially for the group.

With the first hour of what was to be a long environmentally focussed day behind us, Euphemia took to the stage. Her career to date includes backing the likes of Westlife, Peter Andre and Lee Ryan and she took part in X Factor 2005, making it through to the boot camp stage and last 14.

JimmyC and the Bluesdragons along with Stush provided popular sounds right at the heart of the line-up, but it was Peyoti for President who surprisingly took the imagination of the steadily increasing crowd. A London-based opening band, their Manu Chao-influenced songs, such as Bad Politician energised the ever-increasing audience.

In preparation for the headline act, Ronnie Golden, a British singer, guitarist and comedian all in one took the microphone and the numbers steadily increased. With over 3,500 in the music zone and thousands wondering the informative and interactive stalls, eager anticipation was in place for Aswad. People were hopping off the carbon Gym, picking up what they can from the give or take and mixing up their final cycle blended smoothie to get in prime position. After fifteen albums and two decades on the music scene, ASWAD remains one of Britain's best-loved reggae bands. The recognisable tunes are so all-consuming that you could be mistaken for watching old footage from the 80’s.

As the Green Fair began to close down attention turned to the sustainable showing of England’s first World Cup game. A carefully assorted group of acts were chosen to create just the right atmosphere for the big match. Artcha and Gillespiana prepared the audience for what was an amazing performance from Katy Shotter. Katy Shotter first made a name for herself by appearing on the UK television show, Chancers, a song writing competition and an opportunity to work with Mathew Knowles. She is best known for an opening slot on Beyoncé’s UK tour. Due to the overwhelming response, Katy landed the opening spot on the entire U.S. and Canadian leg tour.

Katy’s performance was a spectacular conclusion to over seven hours of music.
