Street Enforcement

What is Street Enforcement?
The Street Enforcement team delivers solutions to the environmental problems that affect our borough. Each ward in Haringey has its own dedicated Street Enforcement Officer, visible in your area wearing a distinctive royal blue uniform. They have three main roles, please click on the links to find out more.
Enforcement
Street Enforcement Officers take enforcement action against a range of offences. Please click on the links to find out more:
- littering
- fly-tipping
- rubbish in front gardens
- graffiti and fly-posting
- dog fouling
- nuisance bonfires
- failure of businesses to responsibly dispose of waste
- Unauthorised street trading
- Unlicensed skips and highways obstructions
They use a range of powers including fixed penalty notices, the use of notices requiring environmental improvement or compliance, the issue of simple cautions, and for more serious and repeat offending they can recommend prosecution.
There are also a number of Tactical Street Enforcement Officers who deal with the most difficult, high profile and significant environmental crimes and criminals affecting the borough. They work with other enforcement agencies to coordinate joint operations that target priority offending and rogue trading in the borough, for example organised fly tipping, nuisance garages, and public eyesore locations.
We also respond to reports of lost and stray dogs and process applications for street trading licenses.

Officers regularly patrol every street in their area, reporting environmental problems such as dumped rubbish and abandoned vehicles. If you think there’s an issue we haven’t picked up on you can use our online Report a Problem form.
|Back to topEngagement
Officers regularly talk to residents, businesses, and other community organisations to find out about local problems and how they can be tackled. Street Enforcement Officers regularly patrol every street in your area, and you can also speak to them at your local Area Assembly meetings.
