Street Enforcement

Our Aims

We aim to make our streets and open spaces cleaner, greener and safer by tackling environmental crime. We also aim to reduce anti-social behaviour and the fear of crime in our communities.

How we meet our aims

  • Street Enforcement Officers provide a uniformed deterrent against crime and anti-social behaviour.
  • We are the Council's street enforcement arm, proactively looking for offences across the borough.
  • We work closely with the Street Wardens, police, other enforcement agencies and those who provide services to our streets and public spaces.
  • Our Street Enforcement Officers prosecute offenders for fly-tipping, fly-posting, graffiti, littering, dog fouling, waste on privately owned land, illegally transported waste, street trading and skip enforcement.
  • Street Enforcement Officers patrol the whole of the borough reporting problems they find and following up with enforcement action when necessary.
  • We investigate problems that have been reportedby the community and take enforcement action if sufficient evidence is available.
  • We work with the community to promote pride and respect for our streets and public places.
  • We make sure people know about our service by going to all Area Assemblies and other groups when we are asked to.
  • We challenge anti-social behaviour where it is safe to do so.

Areas Street Enforcement Officers Patrol

  • The borough is divided into 7 areas based on the Area Assembly map. Each area has a dedicated Street Enforcement Officer. This allows the community to have one point of contact for reporting local problems and receiving advice and information about street issues that affect them.
  • Serious and urgent incidents reported by the community and other agencies will be dealt with by the fast response Street Enforcement Offices, who aim to respond in 24 hours.
