Following an incident in 2002, the community in Haringey came together to tackle the issue of ‘problem social clubs’ in the borough. Following the creation of the Green Lanes Strategy Group, the council co-ordinated an innovative response which tackled the problem head on.
The Enforcement Service created a new Tactical Enforcement Team (TET) which worked closely with a number of partner organisations to remove the various layers of crime associated with these premises. This was done by carrying out a series of joint operations which proved to be highly successful and the clubs are now either closed or compliant.
This work has had a significant positive impact on the safety and wellbeing of the local people. Crime statistics show that crime and anti-social behaviour has significantly reduced in the Green Lanes area. The local businesses and residents have been involved at all stages of the project and agree that Green Lanes is now a safer place to live, work and visit. The key to the project’s success has been the involvement of all sectors of the community and partner organisations
