Freedom of Information (FOI)

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives people the right to look at most non-personal Council information, including minutes of meetings, leaflets, reports, working papers. There are some exemptions.

Under the Act the Council must:

  • help people identify the specific information they require.
  • help people exercise their rights under the Act.
  • provide information (if asked for in writing, including fax or email), or give reasons why it can't, within 20 working days.

How will this affect me? I already get information from Haringey Council.

You should still normally use Council reception points, libraries or Customer Services Centres to get Council information. Also, generally available information and publications are listed in the Council's Publication Scheme, with details of contacts and any charges (see the attached files section below).

If you cannot get the information in these ways, you may ask the council for it (make a Freedom of Information Request).
