Haringey: Our Place

What do we know about Haringey?

The Haringey Strategic Partnership (HSP) needs accurate information about Haringey and the people who live, work and visit the borough. This helps us to understand local need and to set priorities, plan, target and commission services as effectively as possible.

At the same time, the HSP is keen to ensure that as a borough we are as effective as we can be in making the best use of the resources available to us to improve outcomes for our communities.

We have therefore brought together a comprehensive library of data with links to our main sources of information about the borough. This information is updated on a continuous rolling programme. We have used the six outcomes adopted by the HSP (which form the basis of our Sustainable Community Strategy) to group the information. These outcomes are listed in the navigation panel on the left of this page.

We gather information in a number of ways, some of which are explained below.

Joint Strategic Needs Assessment

Haringey has a duty to undertake a Joint Strategic Needs Assessment (JSNA). The JSNA is not about identifying the needs of an individual but looks at the ‘big picture’ of the local population, specifically groups whose needs are not being met. This approach will help us to look to the future – over the next 5, 10, 15 and 20 years – so that we can plan now for likely changes in need.

The initial core data set agreed in 2008 is now being updated in a continuing process of information gathering. For the most up to date data, check each outcome in the navigation panel to the left of this page. However, for reference, links to the original 2008 core data set are set out here:

For more information on the JSNA, please email JSNA@haringey.gov.uk.

Needs assessments

Population needs assessments can help provide a better match between need and service delivery, and can highlight opportunities for efficiency.

We have established a rolling programme of detailed population needs assessments, for example, those for Children and Young People and Older People. In order to avoid duplication, we are now bringing together a wealth of information under the umbrella of Population Needs Assessment in Haringey.

The JSNA Steering Group oversees the needs assessment programme. This is a multi-agency sub-group of the HSP’s Business Group chaired by the joint Director of Public Health. The Business Group has strong links to each of the HSP's thematic partnerships and to statutory leads such as Children and Young People and Well-being. The Business Group includes representatives from:

  • Haringey Council
  • NHS Haringey
  • Haringey Association of Voluntary and Community Organisations
  • Homes for Haringey
