Equality Scheme and Disability Equality Statement

We have produced our Equality Public Duties Scheme to guide our work on Equal Opportunities over the next 3 years (see attached files section below for a copy).

The Scheme brings the general and the specific duties around the six equalities strands, age, disability, gender, race, religion/faith and sexuality under one framework.

The key features of the Scheme are:

  • Equalities Impact Assessment;
  • Consultation and community involvement;
  • Equalities monitoring and making improvements;
  • Equal access to information;
  • Publishing/Disseminating information;
  • Staff induction and training;
  • Tackling harassment and hate crime;
  • Tackling prejudice/promoting positive attitudes;
  • Promoting good relations and social cohesion;
  • Using procurement to advance equality.

The council expects that the scheme will be implemented in a planned way, using the council’s business planning and performance management frameworks as the mechanisms for doing so.

We have produced the following documents

  • Equalities Scheme
  • Summary of Equalities Scheme
  • Disability Equality Statement
  • Summary of Disability Equality Statement

(see attached files section below for a copy).

We have been consulting extensively on the Equality Scheme and on the Disability Equality Statement since October 2006.
