Neighbourhood Area Assemblies

Haringey’s Neighbourhood Management service is responsible for the council’s seven local Area Assemblies. These are:

Residents everywhere have concerns and those living in the more affluent west are always keen to engage with the local authority around issues that affect their community, particularly issues around community safety, crime, the environment, planning, transport, parking, etc. The Area Assemblies give everyone the opportunity to have their say on any local issues.

Since 2000, when they were first piloted, they have evolved, as they have become recognised channels for political engagement.

In April 2004 Haringey Council introduced flexible ‘Making the Difference’ budgets for each Area Assembly to give residents the opportunity to resolve local problems quickly.

Under the scheme, local residents, ward councillors and community groups have been able to apply for up to £10,000 to undertake small projects to improve their local areas. The money has been for one-off projects, which really make a difference.

Each Area Assembly has had a budget of £50,000 so the total budget has been £350,000.
