Residents' Survey

The Haringey Residents’ Survey is undertaken each year to measure the satisfaction and perception of the services of the council.  The results are used by council departments to identify areas where services can be improved and to measure the effectiveness of initiatives undertaken throughout the previous year.  The survey is part of a London-wide polling exercise that has been running since 1991 in partnership with the Association of London Government and its predecessor bodies. Residents' Survey Background

The Haringey Residents' Survey is designed to measure the concerns of Haringey Residents, their perception of the borough they live in and a range of services in the borough.  The survey has been conducted on behalf of the Council by Taylor Nelson Sofres, an experienced survey organisation.

Each year the London-wide survey is done in September/October and Haringey’s survey is done in November/December. The information from the two surveys can be compared.

The questions in the survey are in two groups: the London-wide questions which are asked in Haringey and across London then local questions which are only asked in Haringey.

In order to maintain consistency, the London-wide questions do not change dramatically from year to year. The core questions cover the following topics:

  • Issues of concern to residents
  • Image of the borough
  • Service delivery and use of services.

This year the local questions were concerned with:

  • Service Delivery
  • Sources of information Used
  • Community Cohesion
  • Improving Perceptions of the Environment
  • Access to Services
  • Health
  • Crime

As with all sample surveys small changes or differences may not be significant. We have shown which changes are significant in the results below.

Residents' Survey Fieldwork

The annual residents survey is conducted in November and December.  Over 1000 people are interviewed in-street and in-home at 75 sampling points across the Borough.

Quotas are set on gender, age, working status of women, housing tenure and ethnic origin. Gender and age quotas are based on 2001 Census figures. Ethnicity, tenure and working status of women are based on Greater London Authority projection figures.

Statistical changes of less than 4% are not significant.
