Haringey LINk - Frequently Asked Questions

Here are some questions which people have asked us about LINk, and the answers.

  • If you have a question about Haringey LINk which is not covered here, please send it to haveyoursay@haringey.gov.uk, or come along to the launch event on 28 July 2008 at the Civic Centre, Wood Green

Why is it necessary to establish a HOST?
The existing Patients Forum has been abolished in favour of a LINk arrangement which will have greater powers and include much wider participation (for example it will include Social Care which is a service provided by the local Council). Previously the Patients Forum focused largely on services provided by the NHS/PCT. The Host will therefore be formally contracted to provide much needed and independent support to the LINk to ensure it operates effectively on behalf of service users in the borough.

Why is the Council consulting on this matter?
The Council has awarded a contract to a Host organisation with effect from 1 July 2008.

Existing and potential users of local health and care services are therefore being asked their initial views on how and what the LINk should be considering. It is expected that consultation will continue throughout 2008 whilst the LINk is being established. The Host will be responsible for establishing the LINk and for ensuring diverse representation.

Why should individuals be concerned about the LINk / Host?
A key principle of the LINk is that it must represent the needs and views of local groups and individuals with regards health and social care matters. Arrangements must therefore be established, by the Host, working closely with the LINk that are inclusive and accessible to anyone in the borough. Individuals may therefore wish to make known their views on how these arrangements might be made available whether via telephone, websites, drop-in centres or through collective representation (eg an existing organisation). If you feel unable at this stage to make any comments, there will be further opportunities throughout 2008.

As a service user I want to get more involved in local health matters and to make my points of view heard. How will the new LINk arrangements help me?
There will be a number of channels open:

  1. via an existing group or organisation
  2. by establishing a new group where necessary (but in liaison with the Host once it is established)
  3. directly into the Host
