Key decisions

A key decision is defined by Central Government as an executive decision, which is likely:

  • to result in the local authority incurring expenditure which is, or the making of savings which are, significant having regard to the local authorities budget for the service or function to which the decision relates (as outlined in the Council’s Constitution at Part Five, Section C - Protocol for Key Decisions); or
  • to be significant in terms of its effects on communities living or working in an area comprising two or more wards or electoral divisions in the area of the local authority.

Urgent Decisions - General Exception notices

On occasions an urgent key decision needs to be made in respect of an item not appearing in the Forward Plan. Where the decision needs to be made before the publication of the next edition of the Plan a General Exception notice is published. These can be downloaded from the attached files section of this page.

Access to information

For more information on any of the items listed in the Forward Plan, or copies of relevant reports and background papers, please contact the Lead Officer identified in the Plan.

Reports that set out the detail and basis for decisions are published five clear working days before the meeting at which the key decision is to be taken. Please note that decision dates are occasionally subject to change.
