Mayor's Special Fund for 2008

Different Strokes

Aims

The Mayor, Councillor Alan Dobbie, aims to raise money for the North London group of Different Strokes. The aims of the group are to:

  • Publicise the Stroke Strategy in North London and Haringey, launched by the Government in 2007.
  • Improve public awareness of the risk factors and symptoms of a stroke, and what action to take.
  • Ensure that people who experience a stroke are at the centre of decisions about their treatment and are involved in the design of services.
  • To raise awareness of services available in Haringey for younger stroke survivors through Different Strokes, HALS and the Library Service. This will culminate in a conference bringing together local and national politicians, stroke experts, stroke survivors and service providers to demonstrate what can be achieved to help stroke survivors, particularly younger stroke survivors, optimise their recovery, take control of their lives and regain as much independence as possible.
