  • Info4local - an easy way to keep up to date with information from across central government

DirectGov

DirectGov is the place to turn for the widest range of government information and services, as well as linking to relevant pages on local authority websites. At www.direct.gov.uk (see the external links section below) you can browse by audience groups such as 'disabled people' and 'parents' or by topics including 'money, tax and benefits', 'employment', 'education and learning' and 'motoring'. Or you can access definitive government directories or use the search engine.

Book a driving test, tax your car, renew your passport, find out about child safety, parental leave, special educational needs and lots more.

The site has content for motorists, parents, and disabled people together with broader information for other clearly identified customer groups such as Britons living abroad and the over 50s. The content will continue to expand in the future.

As well as government departments, the site links through to relevant third parties which can offer additional trusted advice and support.

Info4local

Research from MORI shows that the web portal www.info4local.gov.uk (see the external links section below) saves many users at least 30 minutes each week.

Info4local is an easy way to keep up to date with information from across central government. Thousands of people subscribe to its free, daily email alert service.

info4local has grown dramatically since it was set up with a handful of contributors in 2000. It now covers information from nearly 60 government departments, agencies and public bodies.

It gives links, with summaries, to the latest publications and web pages of contributors, as well as linking to their news releases.

You can get the most up to date information delivered direct by signing up for the popular email alert (see the external links section below). You can select what you want to receive from the list of 25 subjects info4local covers.

Feedback from users in local authorities and the wider public and voluntary sectors is good. One user has described the service as “first class” and another as “one of the most useful government services I know of”.
