Volunteer and Training Opportunities
Volunteer Opportunities
There is always something that needs to be done at Wolves Lane Nursery – no matter what the weather; indoor and out – so the more volunteers to help out, the better!
Most volunteers have a disability, though some do not, so there are tasks to suit all abilities, skills and experience - from the absolute beginner to the experienced gardener. Tasks are set according to individual requirements.
Tasks could include:
- maintaining outside areas inc. weeding, digging, pruning
- planting, watering, dead heading
- palm House maintenance inc. deadheading plants, sweeping
So if you’ve got anything from an hour to spare a week, to a few days give us a call and come and help.
To find out how you can volunteer or for more information please contact Barbara Sawyer on 020 8888 5306.
Training at Wolves Lane

Free horticultural training opportunities are available for disabled people, that can lead to a City and Guild recognised qualification.
Courses offer foundation skills and knowledge for those beginning their career in horticulture. Course objectives are designed to give learners the skills and information required to achieve either National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) level 1 or Certificate in Skills for Working for Life (horticulture) entry level 2 & 3.
The courses cover elements ranging from recognising parts of the plant, use and care of tools through to weeding, pruning and maintaining plants and grass areas.
The course is a practical one and is based at the plant centre working in the grounds. No previous experience is required but a willingness to learn new skills and a commitment to achieve the Award is essential.
To find out more about the training on offer please contact Clare Ritson on 020 8888 5306.
