Noticing the Unnoticed

Using Cockpit Arts as a base, four artmakers from Artscope have commenced a project that involves exploring the local area of Clerkenwell and Bloomsbury, and recording their experiences through photography and phonography.

Making field recordings out in the community

In the past, the group have documented the urban/street scene of the local area, for example through architectural photography and the study of street patterns. This new project brings an added dimension to the process of recording one's experiences.

In contrast, this project will explore the green spaces and perhaps some of the more unusal 'hidden spaces'. Long term Artscope collaborator and photographer, Jo Hill, joins the group to lead on the photographic element, alongside Artscope's Keith Simmonds, fresh from a training course in phonography.

Traditionally, Jo Hill's work investigates surfaces from a visual perspective. By making field recordings in the outside enviornment, this collaboration also explores the effect that surfaces have on sound. This project will investigate the cross over between these two mediums.
