Hats off for Sculpture

The staff team at Artscope came together for a training day. Although quite informal in nature, like most Artscope events, the training day was a real opportunity to not only learn new skills, but to share thoughts and ideas regarding each participants experiences in running art workshops with people with disabilities.

Simple card sculpture

It was obvious from a previous team meeting that the staff shared a wealth of experience, and this training was an opportunity to build upon this and explore some different approaches to working in the arts.

The training focussed on three dimensional artmaking, and in a particular, the way in which simple ideas can be developed and transformed into bigger and more complex ideas.

For example, through a simple turn-taking exercise with small wooden blocks, the staff built large scale wooden sculptures, respecting the contribution that each contributed. Another exercise involved making simple sculptures from a single piece of A4 card. This meant spontaneity and the need to develop an immediate relationship with the art materials.

The training proved enjoyable and productive, with staff coming away armed with additional skills, plus ideas and hopefully inspiration to impart on their art groups.
