Politics of Art

In response to a recent exhibition inspired by Black Panther graphic artist Emory Douglas, this on-going project explores a variety of political issues from a visual perspective.

Collage by Vishal PatelThe artwork of Emory Douglas, was initially used by the group to look at how collage can be readily used to create quick and effective imagery, which can be linked to a political message.

The technique of cut-and-paste uses simple materials, like newspapers, scalpels and glue. The group form an immediate connection with the artmaking process and work in a very hands-on way.

Often the group will only spend a single session on each artwork. This maintains a spontaneity to the artmaking process.

Other subjects that will come under the Artscope scalpel are 'Anti McDonald's Day', 'Disability Rights' and 'Globalisation'.
