Fresco by Proxy

A collaborative painting project

This project originated from a joint painting by two artmakers. The bright and colourful painting was originally put on display and it was only then that staff member Helge Nordlie, who facilitates the art group, saw the potential that this could develop into something larger.

"I went back to the group, looking for more paintings that could be pieced together with what was already on the wall. There were a few paintings which could fit in, as well as many paintings in progress. I saw that these could be assembled into a FRESCO, a proper wall painting."

As there was no option of painting directly onto the wall, it had to be a fresco 'by proxy' - 24 separate paintings in a standard format to be pieced together.

At the same time Helge realised that this project was already in progress by the two artmakers. There is a strong continuity and underlying theme in their work, they both have an artistic background from education and previous day services and both work fully independently with well developed skills and commitment.
