Summer events in Haringey to mark the Olympic and Paralympic Games

We organised a number of events and activities for all ages to help celebrate the Games coming to London in Summer 2012.

These included a wide range of sport and leisure activities; cultural events in our parks, libraries and museums; as well as a number of activities specifically for young people.

Event highlights

  • Olympic Torch Relay - a series of events lining the route of the torch in Haringey
  • Bruce Castle’s Olympics festival - coinciding with the torch relay - a fun festival featuring free sport, music and arts.
  • The Cultural Olympiad, featuring:
    • OOOOOH ART: Haringey’s Olympic Art Collection - showcasing the works of 11 Haringey artists, the collection reflected the sporting disciplines and values of the Olympic and Paralympic Games across a range of media.

    • PARAde Festival - This fun-packed day at Tottenham Green Leisure Centre on August 26 brought live street acts and a host of arts and sports organisations who work specifically with disabled people, offering taster activities for people to try.
  • Check out more than a book - our nine libraries were a hive of activity – offering everything from messy mornings to Olympic origami.
  • Let’s get physical - a huge array of sports activities were on offer across the borough – from football to fencing, archery to athletics, basketball to boxing, tennis to trampolining and everything in between.
