West Green and Bruce Grove
History
The West Green ward was identified as one of the most deprived areas in North London and in vital need of regeneration. In 1999 Haringey Council submitted a successful partnership bid to Government Office for London (GOL) for a 7 year program of SRB funding.
Bruce Grove ward is enclosed by Lordship Rec, Lordship Lane, Philip Lane, and the High Road. Most of the residential development took place in the late Victorian/Edwardian era with the spectacular expansion generated by the building of the Great Eastern Railway Enfield Branch. The neighbourhood dates back further to Roman times with Ermine Street (High Road) and to medieval times with The Swan public house. Bruce Grove the road is rich with Georgian architecture and decorative Almshouses.
|back to topAims and objectives
The neighbourhood management strategy sets out to narrow the gap between the deprived neighbourhoods and the rest of the country. A Bruce Grove Strategic Group was set up in October 2004 to identify and develop the key objectives and priorities of the ward. The group is made up of local councillors, local residents, council officers, the police, youth organisations, schools and a representative from the Primary Care Trust.
Through extensive consultation/feedback from residents and the neighbourhood board the following key objectives have been identified:
- Reduce levels of anti-social behaviour
- Improve built environment
- Improve community safety and reduce crime
- To ensure waste management meets local needs and that standards of cleanliness throughout the eighbourhood remain high
- To further develop greater community involvement/consultation
- Improve facilities for children, youth and older people
- Development of successful learning neighbourhood
- Address environmental safety and planning issues.
