History

Northumberland Park and White Hart Lane, formerly JUNP (Joining Up Northumberland Park) was renamed to coincide with the Area Assembly boundary changes in April 2006. JUNP was one of the top four finalists of the 2004 National Sustainable Communities awards for Neighbourhood Management.

Areas:

Northumberland Park

This vibrant area includes Tottenham Hotspur to the north and the old Greater London Supplies Depot to the south. The City is only 12 minutes from Tottenham Hale, and Stansted Airport only 45 minutes in the other direction.

In Northumberland Park local people, businesses, councillors, the police and other agencies including Jobcentre Plus, Haringey’s Housing Service and Northumberland Park School have come together in a resident-led board to improve an area, which is among the top five per cent most deprived in the country.

There are also regular theme group meetings open to all local residents addressing the issues of: Crime and Environment; Employment; Community Development and Capacity Building and Youth.

White Hart Lane

White Hart Lane scored highly on the Government's 2000 Indices of Deprivation. It is amongst the 5% most deprived wards in England overall, ranking 136th nationally. It ranks 92nd nationally for low income, 261st for unemployment, 92nd poorest in educational achievement and 112th most deprived in relation to child poverty.

Despite this assessment and because of the area's predominantly residential character and relative isolation from local centres of development opportunity, it has benefited in the past from specific regeneration funding. The area is largely residential with "cottage style" low rise family properties, built as public housing in the 1920s and 1930s. Unlike many parts of Tottenham it retains a significant predominantly white working class population, many of whom have lived in the area for several generations.

A lot of work has been done to tackle anti-social behaviour, but there are ongoing problems. The Neighbourhood Manager, working closely with the local police, the Council's Anti-Social Behaviour Action Team and Homes for Haringey, has carried out several initiatives which have resulted in increased community confidence.

• Established a nationally recognised youth forum and a new base for local youth project Aspire at Kenneth Robbins House in Park Lane
• Range of holiday youth activities
• Co-ordinated resident involvement in the consultation around future use of Tottenham Marshes
• Successful dog show aimed at promoting responsible dog ownership

Venue and Room Hire at The Northumberland Park Neighbourhood Resource Centre

The Northumberland Park Neighbourhood Resource Centre is a modern, glass fronted building owned by Haringey Council.

It is situated in the heart of Park Lane, a few yards from Tottenham Hotspur Football Ground, and offers the following meeting/conference facilities:

• A selection of small and large meeting rooms
• A Boardroom that can be used by upto 24 - 30 people.

• Two small meeting rooms for upto six people and a medium sized meeting room for 12 people.
• An open area for hosting events and conferences for up to 70 people
• Hiring of equipment for meetings, training, conferences and events.
• Light refreshments can be arranged for your meeting at nominal rates.
• We can recommend local caterers, from sandwiches and buffets to full English or ethnic meals for your meeting or event.
• An “open space” for exhibitions (eg art work)
• Access and facilities for people with disabilities
• Access and facilities for people with children
• There are no parking restrictions in the area, except on match days.
