2each

2each artwork

Wednesday 23 December 2009 to Fri 26 February 2010

Private View: Wednesday 10 February 2010, 7.00pm to 9.00pm
Nine artists, chosen with serendipity, were asked to submit 2each. Liz Collini; Kiki Machado; Lara Harwood; Liz Brown; Chiharu Kaido; Jasia Szerszynska; Mary Yazhari; Edwige Bernanoce and Richard Watkins are all part of a show exploding with colour, and sometimes not...
People rushing wrapped in their big bright scarves; shops exploding with colour and sparkles, songs, wine, sumptuous aromas, candles and twinkly lights; and then it snows, and everything goes quiet, just for one second, everything is still and silent and it all stops. And, as quickly as it stopped it begins again. And, that is exactly as it should be. This is what winter is all about, contrast.
2each is a rollercoaster ride of colour, theme and reason. Just take it as it comes – loud and quiet, delicate and bold, there or absent, but always beautiful.

  • Liz Collini’s drawings and prints explore the tensions between word and image, hand and machine, and reading and looking. Liz’s work will capture your imagination -writing and reading suddenly slow down, words and phrases are removed from identifiable contexts and float freely.
  • Kiki Machado manipulates paper- turning old envelopes, used sewing patterns and torn pages from books - into striking images with harmonizing tones, colours, and shapes which capture the tropical colours of her native Brazil and the ashen grey and green tones of London, the city in which she lives.
  • Lara Harwood’s playful abstract work focuses on the bright side of life. Her bold colours, shapes and textures combine to give a strong life affirming resonance.
  • Liz Brown’s digital photographs, are about the body and the environment. Liz’s work in 2each captures the transient traces left by everyday objects on the human body.
  • Chiharu Kaido’s prints evocative and peaceful, reminiscent of those beautiful memories of that wonderful day last summer…
  • Jasia Szerszynska’s work is bold and striking, yet wonderfully peaceful
  • Mary Yazhari’s images develop organically -from conception to reality - resulting in prints that have their own life and passion. Her prints are vibrant, varied and carefully planned.
  • Edwige Bernanoce photographs mannequins, broken and found in a skip, creating images so still, distant and dreamy… you could fall in love.
  • Richard Watkins prints’ speak of all that is there but more importantly what is not.

Land: Printed and Painted

Land: Printed and Painted Artwork

Wednesday 3 to Saturday 27 March 2010

Private View Wednesday 10 March, 7 to 9pm
Land: Printed and Painted is simply an exploration of land, as seen by John Bourne and Lydie Gallais. Two artists passionate about the British landscape and its capacity to take your breath away by, simply existing. John, a painter and Lydie, a printmaker- capture every possible interpretation of land using two artistic genres as diverse as landscape itself.

John Bourne has exhibited extensively across the UK, and his self-taught style has made his paintings a rare treat for buyers. Inspiration for John’s canvases, are all around him – no field too green, no vista too spoilt. ‘I am interested in human contribution to landscape; in particular the changes and impact brought about by agriculture, industry and urban development.’

French born Lydie Gallais, is an accomplished printmaker with an extensive list of exhibitions ranging from London’s City Hall to the Deutsches Märchen- und Wesersagenmuseum Bad Oeynhausen, Germany. Lydie’s love and adoration of land is displayed effortlessly in her prints, as she manages to capture the vivid greens and avid yellows, perfectly.

Land: Printed and Painted runs from 3 to 27 March 2010 at the Original Gallery, N8. Join us at the private view for a glass of wine and chance to meet the artists – Wednesday 10 March at 7pm.

Land: Printed and Painted is stunning, simple and will make you feel like packing your bags and running to the country!
